Two Boys’ Huge Accomplishment that Must be Recognized!
This is a post that must be written and we must help get 2 little boys what they worked so hard to achieve!
The Vogel family, otherwise known as the Family on Bikes, decided to go on a biking adventure with their 10 year old boys June 2008. Their goal to cycle from Alaska to Argentina. If everything went according to plan those boys would be the youngest people ever to cycle all the way from Alaska to Argentina.
Those boys were so excited that they contacted Guinness World Records to learn what the conditions for breaking that record would be.
Fast Forward 3 years later. They had cycled 17,300 miles through 15 countries (the boys are now 13 years old). On June 2011 after finishing their journey the parents submitted all the paperwork to Guinness World records according to the guidelines they had received in 2008.
But it turns out that they no longer recognize the category as a record since 2009. They won’t monitor records achieved by people under 16 years old.
These boys did such a great effort and I think it’s not fair for these kids not to get recognized. Especially because they started this adventure a year before GWR decided to change the guidelines. Like many grandfather clauses, this definitely needs to be enforced in this case!
Even though the Vogel boys know what they did and are proud of their accomplishment but the piece of paper would be a wonderful way to let them know that the rest of the world is super proud of them as well. Even though we definitely are, with out the paper already.
So in my opinion GWR needs to reconsider their position and give the Vogel boys the recognition they deserve.
Everyone start tweeting (@GWRnews), writing posts or however you want to get GWR to take action!

I think it’s so great that the traveling community of families is rallying around the Vogels! One more way to help is to sign a petition that has been made. Have you seen it yet? Justin over at The Great Family Escape made it. The link and more info is embedded in the post I wrote in support of the Vogels: http://breakoutofbushwick.org/?p=209
