packit freeze go product review 300x234 Travel Expertas Pick of the Week PackIt Personal Cooler

PackIt Personal Cooler is a great budget saver for kids that take lunches to school and for short term travel. It is PVC/lead free, non-toxic, earth safe and reusable – in my opinion a crucial element and great for educating our kids the importance of no-waste.

My Take on Pack It Freeze It and Go

I love this concept! The way it works is you place the empty bag into a freezer over night. The following day you pack it up with your goodies and go.

This is perfect for kids lunches and also for short term travel.

The reason I am saying short term travel is because I tried it out for a long day of travel with my baby. I froze the pack the night before, and in the morning right before we headed out, I placed my son’s 2 baby bottles with formula. Our trip took over 5 hours, during which I used one of the baby formulas. It was perfectly cool when we took it out.

After we arrived to the hotel, we had lunch and I put off using the second bottle until almost 8 hours later. By then, the Packit bag had become room temperature and wet on the inside. When I tried the formula, it had started to sour a little bit. I think if I used the pack for the 5 hour trip, it would have been perfect. But 8 hours was pushing it a little bit.

What I learned: I will go back to saying that I love using the Packit. The only thing I would recommend is to use it for shorter periods of time and since it does get wet once the gel warms up, make sure you don’t put in food that will absorb the wetness but have it wrapped up either in a plastic bag, bottle or aluminum.

I am very grateful to Caitlin Spears of Packit for sending me this wonderful product.
