The Vibrant Cultural Capital of Costa Rica – San Jose
San Jose is the capital of Costa Rica a place filled with history and culture and really close to the popular Poas & Irazu Volcanoes. It is located in the Central Valley of the country, surrounded by large forested mountain ranges and you can’t miss it.
I know most travelers visit Costa Rica because they want to see forests and wildlife. But San Jose offers so many great things to do & see. In it you will find: museums, theaters, delicious international restaurants, and great shopping.
If you want to make this vibrating city your home base to your adventures in the area I recommend staying in one of the many hotels in San Jose, there are many great options. But the best ones are the hotels close to the National Theater, they are right in the middle of all the action.

Want a place a little bit closer to nature? Alajuela is a place located a few minutes outside of San Jose in the middle of coffee plantations (there are some coffee tours available). Also if you want to visit the gorgeous nearby volcanoes I know some great hotels close to Poas Volcano.
Here are some suggestions of things you can do in the area:
* Museums and Gardens
* City parks and plazas
* Theaters, Churches and Downtown Landmarks
* Volcanoes
* Shop at the Central Market (Mercado Central)
* Take a cultural tour of a coffee plantation
* Hike up to the mouth of Poas and Irazu Volcanoes
* A full day at a family adventure at a nature park
