ARCAS Guatemala is an organization that has been trying to preserve Guatemala’s wildlife for the last 21 years. It started as a rescue center to rehabilitate animals from the black market that were being confiscated by the government. Now it is one of Guatemala’s biggest organizations and has 3 locations.

I have visited both with my family. What’s more ARCAS is the reason why I met my husband. At the time he was getting his veterinary practice done in ARCAS Peten when we met. Years later we came back with my son and now they have educational programs like informative tours that try to encourage people’s awareness, I love that.

Months later we went to ARCAS Monterrico. It was during Leatherback Sea Turtle’s hatching season so we where we were part of the magical experience of releasing and helping baby sea turtles to get into the sea for the first time. Depending on the season you can also go on night tours to see how these turtles lay their eggs on the beach.
