Alice and I had a wonderful trip. Everything worked our perfectly.

We loved Casa Bella Rita. It was nice to have Steve pick us up at the airport so we didn’t have to bother with a taxi. They were so welcoming and our room was great. I like the fact that they have free internet. Having the car delivered was so convenient. The man from Adobe who delivered the car was probably the best rental agent I have ever run across. He sat down with us and explained the GPS, rental insurance and made sure we knew about the car, i.e. 4 wheel drive. etc.

I am very happy that we decided to drive but make sure everyone gets a GPS. A few of the roads about Lake Arenal were an adventure to say the least, but the freedom of the car made up for the bumpy ride. If you have other clients who think they can’t drive, tell them that if two women 62 and 67 and drive, so can they.

Of all our adventures, I would say the one I liked best was the White water rafting trip with Desafio. All of the Desafio guides were great. They were on time and very friendly. The Venado caves was also an adventure. We were the only two on the trip and when the guide picked us up, I think he did a double take because of our age. He was trying to make sure we knew what we were in for. Alice even had to sign a waiver because she was older than the recommended age of 65. We said, don’t bother, we are doing this no matter what. Well, we had to walk in a stream, crawl through small openings and walk under a waterfall. All the while we were laughing and having a good time. He said we were great sports.

We did the Community trip with DeSafio. The animal rescue shelter was pretty small. You can tell they work with a very small buget. It was probably my least favorite but for real animal lovers, it would be fun. The organic farm, Luna Nuevo, was interesting and the lunch was very good. Again, gardeners would really like this tour. I don’t know if I would recommend this tour unless I was really sure of the clients interests.

As far as the combined lava hike and The Springs hot springs, I would tell someone to go on two separate trips and make it a longer stay at the hot springs. We enjoyed the hotel “The Springs” but we only had 3 hours there and during that time we also had to eat dinner. The dinner was delicious, but that only left about 2 hours for the springs. We were on the lava hike with a bus full of people and it seemed like the hike was rushed so we could complete it before dark.

As far as El Establo, it seems like the nicest hotel in town with great views from the balconies but there were a few things we didn’t like. First, each group of rooms were built up the steep mountainside. There would be no way you could walk down from one of the higher buildings to the restaurant at the bottom, you would either have to drive your car or take their hotel shuttle. You had to pay to use the internet (a big no no in my mind) and they only had 40 watt bulbs in the rooms. We had to use a flashlight to look in our suitcases and read our books at night.

In Monteverde we did the Sky Trek Zip Line. That was really a lot of fun.

In Arenal we stayed at Mountain Paradise. We loved the hotel, great views from our bungalow and we really liked La Fortuna. (Cheap massages)

In Tamarindo we stayed at Capitan Suizo. It was the best hotel of our trip. They could not have been nicer. The location was wonderful, the beach beautiful. The lunches and dinners were very reasonable for the high quality they served.

I hope some of our reviews are helpful. We would not have changed anything. We had a great time in Costa Rica and I love telling everyone “You can drink the water!”

Thanks,

Renetta and Alice,
