In Reserva Indígena Boruca a reserve in Puntarenas Province of Costa Rica, a tribe of indigenous peoples also known as The Boruca Indian Tribe hold a three day annual festival, Danza de los Diablitos which is celebrated from December 31 through January 2.

• Male participants from the tribe in the festival wore gunnysack like dress and carved masks, a festival masks with demon features which the tribe adopted symbolically from the Spanish Catholics.

• While the player that represents the Spanish conquistador carries a bull face with cloth frame chases the little devils (Borucan) around the village.

• Only the men participate in the re-enactment while the women of the tribe are the one preparing the rice tamales and corn beer.

• The festival is a re-enactment of the Borucans triumph over the Spaniards.

• Boruca Tribe is well known for their arts and craft works, especially weaving and their distinctive painted balsa wood masks, which have become popular souvenir items among Costa Ricans and tourists.
