I’ve never stayed in a Eco Lodge before, and after staying at Hacienda Tijax I can’t wait to go to another.  We splurged and stayed in the deluxe cabin, which was rustic on the outside, but cement covered on the inside with a huge king size bed, air conditioning and a gorgeous bathroom.

But it was the surroundings that made the place so special. Individual cabins spread around canals amongst trees, right off of Rio Dulce in Izabal Guatemala.

However, the greatest surprise came was at dinner time. At this point of our stay we been in the Rio Dulce area for over 5 days and have yet to eat a good meal. That all ended here.  It was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. All three of us had 3 different dishes: Pasta, seafood, chicken and each was superbly prepared, with exotic sauces and savory spices.

It was a great way to end our quick get away!
