Guatemala is not a place I recommend you whip out a tent and just put it up anywhere.   As much as I promote visiting this beautiful country, you don’t want to be a sitting duck. Yet there are still places where you can camp safely. You just need to know where to go:)

Living in Antigua, we headed to Earth Lodge. Even though this place is about 20 minutes from Antigua center, it’s still remote, but remarkably safe. I don’t feel safe anywhere, but I did here. Earth Lodge actually has a bunch of cabins as well, with a little field where you can put up a tent, or rent one of theirs. We did both. I can’t sleep in small quarters.

This is my son’s first camping experience, I’ve done my share, but my husband is a regular pro. We went with a few friends and having the other kid interaction plus, being in such a beautiful place was just a great start for future camping adventures!

Earth Lodge is also known for their yummy food. I was shocked to see that the majority of the people that came to this remote place was to enjoy their dinner and happy hour. Our boys said forget the food, let’s eat marshmallows!
