Photo Friday – Boqueron Canyon, A Hidden Guatemalan Gem

Many people come to Guatemala to visit the popular locations: Tikal, Antigua, and Lake Atitlan. Which is a great trip, however, for the extra lucky ones that actually can venture out for a longer stay and explorations the Boqueron is it!
The Boqueron canyon, in the Quiche department is in the middle of nowhere actually, personally if I wasn’t living here I would never consider such a trip, so how lucky was I to do so.
We had a blast. The only way to get in is by a boat. Ours was a wooden canoe navigated by a 9 year old boy. The whole ride was no more than 10 minutes inside and cost $3.

My husband and son went nuts and swam around, while I just enjoyed the place and watched the boat boy have his breakfast since he was pretty surprised that he had a client. I’m not a big swimmer, especially in odd waters!
At the end of the trip, we realized he was one of the main bread winners for his family of 3 brothers and mom and pop.
