Weekly Travel Tip – Blend with the Crowd

By Marina K. Villatoro · Sunday, August 02nd, 2009

Guest Post from Mina from Sending Postcards is back! Her travel tips continued…

2. Don’t Dress Like a Tourist - If for no other reason than looking tacky, leave the Hawaiian shirt, crop top and fanny pack (a.k.a bum bag for those of you in the UK) at home. In addition to looking like a fool, you become a target for scams and theft and it’s disrespectful in certain places to be exposing too much skin. I understand that not everyone is a fan of modesty, but if you don’t want to respect the cultures and traditions of the place you plan to visit, maybe you should re-think the destination.

3. Photocopy Everything – This may be my predisposition to paranoia speaking, but I feel safe knowing I have copies of my passport, identification, and contacts in different bags and back at the hotel. I have been fortunate enough not to have experienced a situation where this practice has come in handy. However, I have heard some horror stories, so the extra step gives me peace of mind.
