Rescue Centers Coming to the Rescue

Rescue Centers Coming to the Rescue
Contrary to what people think, Costa Rica does not have an animal rescue or rehabilitation center on every corner. However, it does have ZooAve! Beautifully designed and well planned out, the center focuses mainly on birds (aves) with a few mammals and amphibians scattered around the peaceful trails.

The staff at ZooAve has worked hard at saving hundreds of injured birds, mammals and even reptiles and amphibians. The ones that they release are not exposed to the public. The ones that can’t be released are Rescue Centers Coming to the Rescueliving a cozy life in their over-sized, well maintained cages.

The center is located ten minutes from the San Jose International Airport in La Garita, Alajuela and is a great stop-over before heading to your chosen destination.

That does sound like an interesting spot to visit and probably not one that is found in many guidebooks. I know my kids would love to see this.

It's really great to know about this, Marina. I'll have to stop by on my next trip to CR!

Costa Rica is just looking that much more enticing. I'm heading to Panama soon with the plan of spending some time in CR as well. Can't wait.

Great info – my kids would love this place!

It's always nice to hear about places responsibly rehabbing injured animals. I guess if animals are too badly injured to be eventually released back into the wild, this is a nice alternative for them to live out their lives.
And nice that you and your family get to enjoy seeing them!

I would LOVE to visit Costa Rica with my kids. Waiting until the baby is a bit older so he can really enjoy it too!
