Photo Friday – Antigua, Guatemala or The Ring of Fire?

By Marina K. Villatoro · Friday, August 14th, 2009

Photo Friday Antigua, Guatemala or The Ring of Fire? Volcano Agua, this is my view from my terrace

Apparently if you look from the sky down onto Earth you will see the famous Ring of Fire which is an almost perfect circle around the globe made up of volcanoes.

Personally, I don’t have to fly in any spaceship to know that I have moved to a city that is in dead center of it all!

Antigua, Guatemala lies in a beautiful valley surrounded by three volcanoes: Agua, Acatenango, Fuego Volcano (Volcano of Fire).

Volcan de Fuego (Volcano of Fire) is constantly active at very low levels

Fuego Volcano is the beautiful structure that greets my son and I every morning on our way to his school.

I lust after Antigua, can't wait to visit! (Hoping to sometime in early 2010.) I can't believe I didn't know about the ring of fire — it's pretty impressive the differences that you can spot from space!

My husband LOVED this part of Guatemala when he visited. Now I can see why.

3

That's a lovely view from your terrace. And more I read about the place, more I yearn to go there. :-)

Marina you have something gorgeous to look at and appreciate each day it doesn't explode. My mother lives close to a ring of volcanoes but you can't see them that often because of their height and low cloud. Sometimes her place rattles with small earth tremours. Lots of fun!

What an amazing view! Look forward to future posts from this area -when you're not dodging hot lava :)

I loooooove Antigua! I celebrated Semana Santa there a few years ago and it was such a life-changing experience. You are blessed to live there. Awesome pics of the volcanoes.

I love the photos – and the poetic idea of looking at an earth-encircling ring of volcanoes.

9

Great volcano pix. I've yet to see one in person…that would be great, although I wouldn't want to get too close!

Like so many of your other commenters – I really enjoyed Antigua when I was there many moons ago.

Your photos of the Volcano brings me back to walking around and seeing the view from street level.

Is there still that amazing cookie store near the square?
