Photo Friday – Central American Local Fairs

By Marina K. Villatoro · Friday, July 24th, 2009

Photo Friday Central American Local FairsGrowing up in the suburbs isn’t much different than living in a small town in a Central American country. We all get excited for the little things that come our way.

For weeks on end my son and I have passed a little park where they were setting up a local fair. Even though there was like 6 kiddy rides, it took the workers 3 weeks to get it up and running. So when they were finally done, the excitement in my son was hard to contain and we just had to take him.

Funnily enough, we seemed to be the only ones excited about this. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon to have the place to ourselves. It was so empty that the workers simply couldn’t be bothered with us and stood around smoking cigarettes looking completely bored. Thank god my son is too young to understand this. But I had to come over and be like, “Hello, you took my money, so that means you’re open!”

Not that this prompted them to run over and assist us, but at least they did the honors of turning the ON switch. Yet it only took them like 15 minutes to turn it off. Do you want to go round and round for 15 minutes?

The pace of life must be really slooow in those small towns – glad you had some fun at the fair.

This looks far more colorful than anything you'd find in North America!

I love our local fair too. Our fair is normally in Fall.

This reminds me we need to get to our state fair this year. Could be the last year for it in Detroit.

One of my favorite high school memories is when the guy let the really fast ferris wheel to run for at least 15 minutes. As a mom I would probably be hoping to get of sooner!

Well, once they turned the rides on…you got your money's worth!
As Tim points out, this may be the last year for Michigan's State Fair. Losing so many events this year, we're ever so much more grateful for the ones that are still a going concern.

Glad your son had fun. I liked the pink spider ride photo…and unexpected color I think.

SUCH fun! our daughter loves fairs, too. my parents usually take her to the big county fair in sept – she is looking forward to it!

Good you and your son were able to still enjoy yourselves, even though you were the only ones there. Nice mom!

It looks like you had so much fun. Thanks for sharing.
