Do you know how much it costs to replace a stolen American, Canadian or European passport?

Why should the thieves that got your passport be prospering while you’re laying out unnecessary stress vibes and cash. These days carrying around a copy of your passport, especially in Costa Rica and Guatemala is totally cool. Everyone understands. And if they don’t, tell them that your passport on the black market can be bought for $60 and they’ll back off.

So keep your original in your hotel or the hotel’s safe, and know that a copy only costs 5 cents and is just as valid! (Unless you’re crossing borders, than it’s a whole other ballgame:)
