I was truly surprised, in a good way, when we arrived to this central Guatemala City Zoo – La Aurora National Zoo.

The animal collection had all the Madagascar characters (giraffe, zebra, lion, hippo), Shakira (tigers) and Timon (meerkats). Anything after that was just plain bonus points for the zoo as far as my son was concerned. The cages were spacious, well managed and the animals seemed happy. At least they weren’t pacing back and forth ripping their hair out!

Oh, and they had a baby section we saw Simba (teeny weeny 3 week old lion cub).
