Guatemala Daily Photo – Sea of Purple in Antigua Guatemala During Holy Week

Semana Santa in Antigua, Guatemala is without a doubt the king of Holy Weeks. I think the closest to it in comparison is Spain’s Easter week. There is so much involved that I’ll leave that all for another post. However, besides the amazing carpets, insanely huge Jesus Christ icons and week long processions there seems to be an air of purpleness that surrounds this week. It overflows into the people who have paid a lot of money to play the roles of what I like to think of as pall bearers. In this picture these are all the people who are wearing purple and waiting their turn.
