Have you seen a creature that reaches lengths of 12 feet, weighs half a ton and can eat an entire cow for lunch in one sitting?

How about 2000 of them?

Welcome to Tarcoles River, Costa Rica. This has got to be one of the most unique experiences you can have and it’s free!

If you’re in Costa Rica, and heading to the popular beaches of Jaco or Manuel Antonio, you WILL pass the Tarcoles River. Crossing over the bridge and looking down you will do one of three things:come closer crocodile Photo Friday 2000 American Crocodiles in the Tarcoles River, Costa Rica
1. Stare in awe at the magnificent creatures that are less than  15 feet below you.
2. Vomit from fear.
3. Run for your life and then vomit from fear.

We decided on No. 1. Even though, if my son got too excited and decided to get a closer look by practically falling over the bridge, we couldn’t peel ourselves away from the awesome site.

Tarcoles River has the largest population of American Crocodiles in the Northern Hemisphere and it feels like you are part of a National Geographic Documentary.
